Core Stability

Many individuals and athletes spend minutes in the plank position each workout to develop core stability. Various plank exercises can play an important role in training the core............but how often are you maintaining a prone position on the floor during athletics? There may be more effective ways to improve spinal stabilization that have greater transfer to sport performance or tasks of daily living. Consider incorporating movements that take place in the standing positions, with some movement (not only isometric contraction), have rotation or anti-rotation component, and include the ability to progressively overload core musculature. There are many ways to do this starting with movements such as the squat, deadlift, and other movements that we don't consider "core" training, but are very effective.

I agree; incorporating dynamic standing exercises is a great way to train for real-life situations.
